In-network insurance
I accept most Cigna, Aetna, and Optum/United plans. Your session cost will depend on your plan’s coverage - I’m happy to verify your benefits or assist you in doing so before beginning work together so that you know your costs and there are no surprises.
Using Insurance
When using insurance, I will collect your insurance information prior to session so that we can verify your benefits. This way, you know what you will be paying for each session before we meet - no surprise costs.
Process & Payment Types
I will submit your insurance claim after our session and the insurance company will pay me directly for the portion they cover. If you have a copay or co-insurance, my billing system will automatically charge your card on file for your share after our session.
In order to ensure that our work isn’t disrupted by overdue invoices, I ask that current clients keep an up-to-date credit card on file. If you do not have a card on file and you have an outstanding balance before a session, we will pause sessions until your balance is paid. You may use a credit card, HSA card, or Zelle to pay. I do not accept checks or cash.
Cancellation Policy for Insurance Clients
If you cancel prior to the 48-hour window before our session, there is no cancellation fee. If you cancel within 48 hours of your session, the cancellation fee is ½ of your usual session fee. Insurance may typically pay for your session (or part of your session) but insurance will not cover a canceled session. Thus, you will be responsible for 50% of the usual session fee. The usual session fee varies by the insurance provider, so I will let you know what your obligation would be.
I understand that sometimes emergencies come up, we get sick, or something else happens. That’s why I typically allow one “freebie” late cancel without a charge to allow for some flexibility.
If you no show for a session, regardless of how many times it’s happened, you are responsible for the full session fee.
Out-of-Network Insurance
For insurance networks other than the ones above, I can provide you a superbill that you can submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement.
Reimbursement is entirely dependent on your insurance carrier and your plan. Not all plans include out of network benefits, and not all insurance companies offer out of network benefits at all. You are responsible for contacting your insurance company and finding out what out of network benefits your plan offers. You are also responsible for paying the full session fee at the time of session, and submitting your superbill to your insurance company for reimbursement. Your insurance company will reimburse you directly.
Many insurance plans provide out of network coverage, with partial coverage of fees. Not all insurance plans provide this (for example, Kaiser will not) so check your individual plan for out of network mental health coverage.
You may wonder why you would do out of network insurance rather than private pay - for more information you can read “What to Know about Out of Network Insurance.”
